Worshiping Creation, Not the Creator

“ To choose unbelief is to choose is mind over dogma, to trust in our humanity instead of all these dangerous divinities.”

This statement hit’s a very sensitive and deep topic. As I express my opinion, please know that these are my beliefs and that they are in no way to offend or hurt anyone. We are all given the free will to believe and do what we want, but this is what I have chosen to believe this is what I believe is TRUE…

My interpretation on this assertion is when one individual chooses not to have faith in God, and they rather choose to value their humanity more than they value a belief in a God. I think this assertion is very accurate in the sense that when people choose not believe in God it is because they would rather live in their own ways. Without having to feel convicted or guilty of the things that they do in their lives. Our automatic response as human beings is to push things aside and act like they are not there. We do this when it comes to hearing the truth, hearing what we know is right yet we don’t want to hear it because its not what we WANT to hear. I am also a Christian and I do believe in a God. I believe that He is the Creator and that He has given us the option to follow Him or not. However that does not mean that I have never had my doubts. There has been short moments in my life when I have wondered whether there really is a God and I felt so empty, with no reason, and no purpose. It felt like there was no sense of security, like everything just happened by chance or coincidence. I didn’t like it. The feeling that there is no God it was just scary to me to think that no one was in control. That we were all just running around with no purpose with no one watching over us. Its hard for me to believe that there is people out there who really believe there is no God. Although I know there is people out there who really don’t believe that there is a God. My thoughts on that is why? Why do you choose to believe that there is no God? What is it about this world that you would rather believe in it more than you would rather believe in a God? He created us all and whether you choose to believe in Him or not it is not going to change the fact that He exists. Yet He created us with free will to believe or not, which I believe is a good thing because we don’t really love and believe when we are forced. When it comes down to it, its really out of force and not because we genuinely want it. There is a lot more to it then just what I have mentioned and why people choose to believe. However for the purposes of this assignment I have to keep it short with out wandering off to other areas. As far as the quote states though, I do believe that when people choose not to believe in God its because they would rather live in their own ways. They would rather worship the creation and not the Creator. The way society is now we are taught to be self centered and independent. We mold our world with OUR desires, OUR beliefs even if they are not necessarily true. On that note I have seen what this world has to offer, and I don’t want it because it doesn’t compare to what God has for me. =)

  1. I appreciate your honesty and applaud your convictions. I think people are often afraid to talk about religion because it stirs up so many passionate and not always positive responses but you are very brave for presenting your opinions here. While I do not agree with you, I still admire and respect your views. I am one of those people who is still in the stages of questioning if God exists or not, an agnostic possible. I think people often affiliate with religion because it feels safe or gives them a moral and ethical guide for life. I don't always believe people can think or behave responsibly for themselves without a "parent" type figure to answer to. But I'm not saying that's why all people choose to believe, just some. I think this is necessary for some to have that, or what would the world be... Scary. I guess I should also say I was a Christian for years but the more free thinking and educated I became naturally the more I questioned the "dogma" in your quote. To address the quote more I would completely agree with it. I think religion is dangerous, more people have died in "holy wars" then in all other wars combined. But I still don't think all people can be trusted in their humanity and they need something to believe in which is why I see religion as a double edged sword, absolutely necessary but possibly doing more harm than good. I don't think all people are like this, that is, in need of someone to answer to. Some of the kindest and most sincere people I know are very devout and perfectly responsible and respectable so that's why religion is ok with me but it's not something I choose to be involved in. Great blog, so while I disagree with you I still think your views are insightful. All that matters is if you believe, then they're true for you. It's ok that it's not for me.

  2. I can truly appreciate what you wrote in your post I agree with all of it, as I too am a Christian. I grew up in household where we knew God and we thanked him and praised him for all of our blessings, and I am so thankful to be raised knowing that I was created for a purpose. I too have found it difficult at points to trust in God, because we are human and I am sure everyone has had doubts. However if I know one thing for sure it is that I love God and having faith in him gives me purpose, makes me feel safe, and I wouldn’t want to walk this earth not knowing him. I also like what you said about how people are of this world now, they look to the media, and there friends to see how to act. I understand and respect that everyone has there own beliefs and I do not judge anyone for that, however I feel sad for those who are walking this earth all alone without feeling as though they have someone watching over them. I think too that in society it has become so easy to live for yourself and only truly care for yourself and it is hard to believe in something. As a whole I think that society has given up on putting the effort into having faith and believing. I enjoyed your post and I am glad that you know Jesus!

  3. I do argee with you on some of this. i think that people say they don't believe ina god or don't follow a religion because they don't want to feel that guilt or judgment from the way they are living their life. People do push things aside and don't deal with them when things get tough. Religion and god are very tough things to talk about when you are confused about it especially. I do think people should live the their lives they way they choose to and not be judged by it, I also think that they should't feel bad about the choices they make and the way they choose to live. I really like how you said that god gave us the choice to follow him or not. For me God didn't write the bible, I thnk he gave everyone sometype of feeling of what is right and what is wrong and that varies from person to person but we all have it. Well I enjoyed reading you blog and thought it was very insightful and gave me some things to think about. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to open up and give your views and thoughts I really appreciate it.
